History of the Lethbridge YSA Stake

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

The creation of the Lethbridge Young Single Adult Stake was announced in July 2017 during a meeting involving members of the Taber, Lethbridge West, Lethbridge East, and Lethbridge Stakes. The announcement was made in conjunction with many boundary changes to the wards and stakes in the Lethbridge Area.

David Orr, Eric Wilde, Clay Leavitt

The stake was formally organized in Lethbridge on August 27, 2017 by Elder Vern P. Stanfil, General Authority Seventy, under the direction of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The stake was formed to serve the needs of the young single adults (aged 18-31) in and around Lethbridge, Alberta. Eric Wilde was called to serve as Stake President. Called as counselors were David Orr and Clay Leavitt of Cardston.

The boundaries of the stake reach from Claresholm in the north, to the United States border in the south and from the border of Alberta and British Columbia in the west to Taber in the East. The stake currently has 1500 members living in the seven wards and one branch that make up the stake. For details of the various units go to our Sacrament Meeting Times page.

In February 2019, the stake was witness to a miracle from God. President Wilde was found in his home unconscious from carbon monoxide poisoning and given less than a one percent chance to live. Over the course of the next week, the stake membership gathered in fasting and prayer for Heavenly Father to spare his life and restore him to health. President Wilde did indeed make a full recovery and was able to travel to the Rome Temple dedication less than three weeks after this incident. For more information on this miracle, read President David Orr's recollections of the event and also watch "Under Pressure for a Miracle" found on the front page of the website.

Every July, stake members gather for a Summer Conference. It is a weekend of camping, fun in Waterton Lakes National Park, and a special outdoor Sacrament Meeting. There are also dances and guest speakers that help bring the stake members closer together. These conferences have been popular with members outside the stake as well with many coming from Calgary and Edmonton Alberta, and from various places in Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and even as far south as Utah. Go to our Stake Photo Gallery to see pictures of past Conferences.

Mark Sauer, Stuart Morgan, Bruce Stewart

On October 23, 2022, Elder Randall K. Bennett, General Authority Seventy, presided over the call of a new stake presidency. Stuart Morgan was called to serve as Stake President. Bruce Stewart and Mark Sauer were called as counselors to the stake president.

The mission of the Lethbridge Young Single Adult Stake is to strengthen the testimony of Jesus Christ and his Gospel that lives in each member of the stake. We desire for you to gain your own personal witness of the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
